Is it wierd when you redraw a character while trying to make it better than the last attempt, that you find yourself liking things better about the first one?

Well, here's a redrawing of my YouTube persona since I got use to using Gimp, NeoSwordsmanZ. This is actually suppose to be part of a bigger picture i'm working on, but i'm still working on adding 1-2 more characters in the shot.

The blue aura around him is suppose to represent the NeoSirius(good name? It may change if i think of something else) aura he possesses. It gives his sword a blueish glow when he's in battle, and a few other useful powers(which i'm still playing around in a small story for him). As for his sword, i'm still toying with a story for its origin, but i'm leaning to something to the effect of it being made from metal from a meteorite, falling from the sky within a meteoite, or something else altogether.

I ended up having to fix a lot of things about him(artwise) before I felt comfortable submitting this, and I still don't know if its quite what I want, so any thoughts or critique would be more than welcome for this.
